Curtis is Lecturer in Public Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park and member of the Faculty Senate’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. A policy maker, Curtis is a member of the Prince George’s County (MD) Board of Education. As a Board Member, Curtis serves on the national steering committee of the Council on Urban Boards of Education. Curtis Valentine serves as Co-Director of the Progressive Policy Institute’s (PPI) Reinventing America’s Schools Project. Prior to joining the PPI, Curtis served as Consultant to the National Council on Teacher Quality. In the past, Curtis served as Executive Director for State Relations with Connections Education, the world’s largest virtual K-12 public school provider and as an International Affairs Fellow (IAF) with the Council on Foreign Relations. As an IAF, Curtis was posted to the Education Department where he served in Secretary Arne Duncan’s Office of International Affairs analyzing education reform efforts around the world. Curtis was previously appointed to Maryland’s Governor’s Workforce Investment and the Federal Relations Network of the National School Boards Association. Curtis is a graduate of Morehouse College and Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
