Dr. Luiza Duarte is Research Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars’ Brazil Institute as well as at The Center for Latin American and Latino Studies at American University. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Sorbonne Nouvelle University – Institute of Latin American Studies (IHEAL). She received her Master’s in Media Studies from the Panthéon-Assas University, French Institute of Press, and graduated from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro with a Bachelor’s in Journalism.

Duarte served as Hong Kong-based Asia correspondent for Globo Group, the largest commercial TV network in South America, and as US correspondent for CNN Brasil. She worked for Radio France Internationale (RFI), in Paris. Duarte has reported from more than a dozen countries and was a regular contributor to BBC World Service and to Folha de São Paulo – Brazil’s leading newspaper.

Over the past 15 years, Duarte has collaborated with diverse stakeholders, including traditional and social media platforms, governments, academic institutions, NGOs, and think tanks across Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. Her extensive experience encompasses evidence-based strategic and policy advice, conceptual analysis, research, effective presentation of ideas and data, mediation, reporting, multimedia content creation, facilitation of multi-stakeholder dialogues, media relationship building, and project conceptualization and implementation. Duarte’s research primarily revolves around geopolitical risk, the information environment, and public diplomacy.
